In the first set of his US Open semifinal against Karen Khachanov, Casper Ruud won a 55-shot point to end the frame.
kept his composure to win 7-6 (5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 on Friday, earning a spot in his second Grand Slam championship match of the year.
When it was over, the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd yelled his name, "Ruuuuud!"
Instead of saluting, it appeared as though they were sort of booing.
Ruud, Rafael Nadal's opponent and runner-up in the French Open in June
is a 23-year-old Norwegian who, if he wins the title at Flushing Meadows on Sunday, would rise from No. 7 to No. 1 in the rankings.
"Naturally, I was ecstatic after Roland Garros," Ruud remarked.
"but also modest enough to believe that may be my last competition of my professional life.
